Where Can You Charge An Electric Vehicle?

Electric vehicles can be charged both at home and public charging stations.

At-home charging stations can be an outlet or a station you install in your garage. When using an at-home level 2 charging station, it can take several hours to charge an EV fully. Charge at night and be prepared to hit the road the following day for work!

Public charging stations exist and come in two types, Level 2 Charging, and Level 3/DC Fast Charging.

Level 2 Charging Stations are more common and can completely charge an EV in several hours. These stations are often in places you spend a lot of time, such as offices or big box stores.

DC Fast Charging Stations, also known as Level 3 Charging Stations, are fast charging options. In about 45 minutes, these stations can charge your EV up to 80%. You may need to confirm via your EV’s owner’s manual if your EV is compatible with this type of charging station.

How Far Can EVs Go On One Charge?

EV ranges depend on the model and the size of the battery. On average, EVs can travel 100 to 300 miles on a single, full charge. A good rule of thumb: the larger the battery, the longer the range.

An important factor to consider when shopping for an EV is how far you normally drive. Drivers who only go a few miles a day may not need an EV with a 300-mile range.

Can You Take an EV On A Road Trip?

EVs are excellent vehicles to take on a road trip! They produce no emissions, and there are charging stations across the country, making it easy to “fuel up” when you need to.

Many charging station chains have apps with maps that can help you locate compatible stations and plan your route ahead of time.

Do EVs Require As Much Maintenance As Gas Vehicles?

Electric vehicles, generally, require less maintenance than gas-powered vehicles. Why? EVs have fewer moving parts! There is no engine that requires oil changes because electric cars are powered by batteries and motors.

There are other routine maintenance services that electric vehicles need, such as tire rotations or brake inspections. However, regenerative braking in electric vehicles will even reduce the need for brake replacements because this form of braking reduces wear and tear on brakes.
