Kia Forte vs Hyundai Elantra: Engine Performance

While these models seem similar in a variety of their components, there are a few notable differences.

The Kia Forte and Hyundai Elantra each come with respective 2-liter 4-cylinder engines. Each engine produces 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. The Kia Forte and Hyundai Elantra both offer 6-speed manual transmissions. While it’s standard on the Kia Forte base and Kia Forte GT Manual trims, the Hyundai Elantra only offers it standard on its N Line trim.

The fuel economy of the Kia Forte is slightly better, as well, with the 6-speed manual transmission. The base trim gets you an EPA-estimated 27 MPG in the city and 37 MPG on the highway.1 The Hyundai Elantra’s 6-speed produces an EPA-estimated 25 MPG in the city and 34 MPG on the highway.

They also offer their own versions of an intelligent variable transmission, but differ when it’s standard versus when it’s available. On the Kia Forte, the Intelligent Variable Transmission with Sportmatic® is available for the base trim—and comes standard on the three trim levels above it. The Hyundai Elantra has a Smartstream® Intelligent Variable Transmission that comes standard on all trims except the N Line.

They also differ in their offerings of a 7-speed Dual-Clutch Transmission. While it’s optional on the Hyundai Elantra’s N Line trim, it is standard on the Kia Forte GT trim.Black Kia Forte Near Me

Audio Entertainment & Connectivity

The new Kia Forte has quite a few similarities with the Hyundai Elantra regarding interior entertainment amenities and technology features.

Each model comes standard with Bluetooth® connectivity for hands-free phone calls and audio streaming. They also both sport an 8-inch touchscreen that is compatible with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™—allowing you to bring your favorite music playlists right to your new set of wheels.

To listen to that music, you’ll want a good sound system. Both automobiles offer comparable 8-speaker premium audio systems: The Kia Forte offers an available Harman Kardon® Surround Sound Audio System with Clari-Fi™ restoration technology, while the Hyundai Elantra offers an available Bose® Premium Audio system.

If you’re a loyal SiriusXM® listener, you’ll get to continue listening to all of your favorite shows and music, as both models offer access to this streaming service. However, the Kia Forte EX trim also offers SiriusXM® Traffic. All vacationers want to arrive at their destination as soon as possible, and with this feature, you’ll stay abreast of what’s happening on the highway so that you can choose a quicker route.

Driver-Assistance Technology and Safety Features

A major factor to look for when buying the right sedan is the safety features—more specifically, driver-assisting technology features. The Kia Forte includes various systems at the base level that work with exterior-mounted sensors to measure speed and distance and provide ample warnings to you.

The Kia Drive Wise suite of driver-assisting technologies includes Forward Collision Warning, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, and Driver Attention Warning, which can pick up on potential fatigue behind the wheel and suggest you pull over to rest. The Hyundai Elantra also offers similar features.

Cargo and Passenger Volume

Both the Kia Forte and Hyundai Elantra offer more than 96 cubic feet of room for overall passenger comfort. The Hyundai Elantra offers slightly more legroom, at 42.3 inches in the front and 38 inches in the back. The Kia Forte has comparable front space at 42.2 inches, but does trail with 35.7 inches in its rear row.

The Kia Forte makes up for it, though, with slightly more cargo space. With 15.3 cubic feet at your disposal, you’ll be able to fit plenty of luggage and gear for that next road trip. The Hyundai Elantra is slightly behind with 14.2 cubic feet, but still provides decent space.

To capitalize on even more cargo room, both models have 60/40 split-folding rear seats. While this feature comes standard in five out of the six Kia Forte trims, it’s only standard on two out of the four Hyundai Elantra trims, and optional on one more.

Comfort and Convenience

The Kia Forte and Hyundai Elantra each have a cool trunk feature that allows you to make use of both of your hands. On the Kia Forte, it’s known as Smart Trunk™. Standard on four trims, this feature allows you to simply place yourself in front of your trunk, keys in hand, and have it open for you. Now, when you’re carrying a bunch of stuff to the trunk, you no longer have to worry about pressing a button or lifting the trunk door yourself. A similar hands-free trunk feature is also available on the Hyundai Elantra.

Driver comfort is prioritized, with both models having a 6-way adjustable driver’s seat. Drivers can upgrade to a standard 10-way adjustable driver’s seat on the Kia Forte EX trim, or add it onto the Kia Forte GT-Line or Kia Forte GT. In addition, to give front-seat passengers just as much freedom and comfort as the driver, the Kia Forte offers am available 6-way adjustable passenger seat.

The Hyundai Elantra’s passenger seat is adjustable, too, but it only moves four ways instead of six.2018 Kia Forte Interior
